Home performance testing includes looking at everything from lighting to insulation to the boiler in your basement to the air sealing in your attic, to solve everything from moisture problems to energy waste and beyond.
As a relatively new field that has groown out of an increased awareness of the need to address the poor performance of our existing homes, the goal of Home Performance Testing is to fix those homes. We do so by:
- Maximizing energy efficiency and building durability.
- Ensuring the healthiest possible indoor air quality.
-Evaluating the relationships of various components within your home to ensure that they're all functioning as they were designed to.
The result is a home that is more durable, comfortable, and energy efficient, as well as better for the environment and future generations - exactly how a home should be.
Click below to read up on the various specality Home Performance Tests that we offer. These tests can be done alone or in conjuction with any of our other tests. However, if your home is experiencing multiple symptoms we recommend having a Home Energy Audit done which includes all of the following.
Insight conducts a blower door test to reveal the location and quantity of air leakage. This test pulls air out of the house to draw outside air in through gaps and cracks. Using an infrared camera at this point identifies air leaks, areas of high moisture, and airflow within walls. Insight also examines the exterior and interior of your home for air sealing and insulation needs.
We inspect the attic and the box sills in your basement and use a variety of methods to detect insulation in your walls. Deficiencies are noted as well as opportunities for improvement.

Insight tests your furnace and water heater to ensure your appliances are drafting properly and not leaking deadly carbon monoxide into your home. This is especially important when increasing the air tightness of your home. Also, all exposed gas lines are inspected for leaks.
Insight inspects the entire home for adequate ventilation. Our analysts quantify the home’s natural air leakage and provides recommendations to improve indoor air quality. The report also recommends appropriate solutions for heat and moisture control ventilation in attics, crawlspaces, bathrooms, and kitchens. Please note that an assessment of proper air ventilation is not the same as an air quality test.
You’ll receive a detailed report of findings, including a prioritized list of recommended improvement opportunities in order of safety, durability, comfort, and efficiency. This prioritized scope of work directs qualified contractors to complete improvements.
Insight’s standard Home Performance Test includes a second Follow-up Audit after the work is done to confirm effectiveness and reassess safety. All customers also have the option of using Insight Property Services as their ongoing project consultant throughout their home improvement efforts. Insight can also refer you to qualified contractor.
